I think it is awesome how you guys have a lot of human model studies to pull from. Your large sample size studies gives some good insight into how common this is in elite athletes. Also your first figure is pretty neat… did you guys make that from scratch…if so nice work
I really like how you divided the sections into normal heart, physiological hypertrophy, and pathological hypertrophy. After reading the article in class, I found the sex differences even more interesting, and I even learned more regarding this topic. My main recommendation would be to have a couple of summarizing sentences for each section (most sections have them, but not all). Overall, I think your group did a great job synthesizing an enormous amount of information!
Good work with a lot of information. One thing I noticed throughout (which is a quick addition) is adding table numbers to your tables. They have to number sign but then no number following them. Also some paragraphs say see table# and then no number following. Good work!
Only new comments: 1. Under normal heart, hypertrophic signaling pathways, I liked how there was a real quick intro sentence before that big table, and I would may include that before some of your other big tables so I'm not left wondering what this table is and why it is important. 2. I like how you summarize at the bottom of each section, but I would play around with the formatting to make it more prominent like THIS IS THE BOTTOM LINE so I can click or scroll right to it to read the take home points!
I think the special considerations section regarding beta-blockers and exercise is very important information to know as a PT and I am glad you included this on your page! One new comment I have, which is a small detail, is that some of the studies in the tables have ( ) around the year and some do not. It may be good to stick with one format. Overall, I really enjoyed this page!
Overall the page looks great, really informative. The only thing I noticed was from your references, and I'm pretty sure we have this problem on the PD page. The numbers are out of order in the page, for instance I saw numbers 108, 31 and 4 in the same paragraph. I don't know if that's a huge deal or not… I'm sure it's from everyone posting their content separately and not in order, it's on several of the pages. Just fyi, but not sure if it really needs fixed or not.
Hey guys, I found a typo after the first table: "In the normal healthy heart, acute left ventricular (LV) overload initially a physiological adaptation" I think you're missing "is"
Also you're probably aware that there are a bunch of places in the intro that you haven't hyperlinked yet.
What I found most interesting was that IL-6 is an activator of AMPK. I did not come across this in my research. This might have some cool implications for CF. In CF, AMPK might have positive effects on promoting airway clearance, hydration, and reducing inflammation. It is known that IL-6 is increased significantly for long periods of time post-exercise in CF. This is generally believed to be bad because of implications on bone mineral density and muscle wasting. Although there is some uncertainty as to whether or not IL-6 acts as a pro or anti inflammatory marker during exercise in CF. but now I must consider if increases in IL-6 also mean increases in AMPK and thus increases in clearance and hydration of the airway. Or would the potential negative effects in the muscle and bone outweigh the potential positive pulmonary effects. I think it's clear there's still quite a bit unknown with CF and the effects of exercise especially!
Great! Looks like you've added the table numbers. There is still one missing in a paragraph referring to a table in the Apoptosis section.
I really liked this page overall, tons of info! You might want to move the ACSM exercise recommendations section, it seems a little out of place in the middle of the page (after the normal heart section perhaps?) I think its also great you guys did a review of the normal heart function to kick your page off with.
